The Complete Benroy: Bennet Petersen and His
Remarkable Trailer
The new book from
Kuffel Creek
Built between 1954-1955, the "Benroy" is the most beloved Teardrop
Trailer and the brainchild of Bennet Peterson.
Collectors still find them and restore them, but there aren't enough
of them to go around. |
We tell the story of the late Bennet Petersen, from his service in WWII
through the days of the Benroy factory, and subsequent experience in the
RV business. In 2002 we were able to sit down with him and
interview him, and have transcribed that interview.
Bennet also provided the historic photos of the early days at the
Benroy factory and advertising flyers. We include dozens of other
photos of two original Benroy trailers that have been lovingly preserved
and restored. |

 |
You may not be able to find or restore an original Benroy, but don't be
discouraged, we also show you how to build your own teardrop trailer,
based on measurements and specifications of the original Benroy.
This trailer is a dream to tow, not bothered by gusty winds.
You can't even see it in your side mirrors. It is light enough to
push around the driveway and fits inside a standard garage. |
The cabin is sized to accept a 4" thick foam mattress. When used
in conjunction with flannel sheets, a down comforter, and feather
pillows, it sure beats sleeping in a tent, especially on a rainy night!
The galley is designed with three full-depth drawers, and a cabinet
door that folds up to become a work surface. The sink is fed by a
gravity 6-gallon water tank, and a 20 lb. propane tank supplies the
two-burner stove.

Our teardrop trailer plans have been the "Gold
Standard" for years, and this book does not disappoint those who have
waited years for it. Included are a complete set of detailed measured shop drawings of the
chassis, body carcass, cabinets and shelf, water system, electrical
system, trailer lights, and the gas piping system for the stove.
Also included are exterior elevations for the paint scheme and a water
tank order form. We give you a complete material list and where to
find these materials. |
 |
 |
We also take you step-by-step through a complete build, with lots of
photos and helpful shop tips.
This is not an easy or beginner
project; you need to be a serious craftsman with a well-equipped shop to
even consider taking it on, as it entails welding the chassis,
woodworking, and metal working skills. But we provide you the best
set of plans to successfully complete this rewarding project. |
